ROCKDALE COUNTY – At approximately 6:00 PM on January 18, a hit-and-run occurred on Interstate 20 Eastbound near Panola Road in DeKalb County. A Dodge Charger struck a Chevy Silverado and then proceeded to leave the scene. The driver of the Chevy Silverado then followed the Dodge Charger eastbound into Rockdale County near Salem Rd to obtain the tag information.

After the Charger pulled into a parking lot, a verbal altercation between the two drivers occurred. The argument then escalated into the suspect, Justin Perry Hurst, striking the victim and then stabbing the victim multiple times. The victim, identified as an off-duty officer from the Metro Atlanta area, was immediately transported to a local hospital in Atlanta for medical treatment. The severity of the officer’s injuries is currently being evaluated.

The Dodge Charger driver fled the scene following the stabbing. Authorities are working to locate the individual responsible for both the hit-and-run and the stabbing.

The investigation is ongoing, and additional information will be provided as it becomes available. Authorities are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to contact local law enforcement.
