The Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit is comprised of six K-9’s and their handlers. Of those six K-9s each has a specific set of skills that they are trained for. The Sheriff’s Office utilizes the K-9s for numerous purposes, whether its locating a missing person, tracking a suspect who fled, detecting the odor of illegal narcotics or apprehending a fleeing suspect. Each K-9 is cared for by the handler and goes home with them every night. All the K-9s ride with their handlers for the entire shift and are available to respond to any situation if the need arises.
